Board Notes – October 23, 2007
Facilities use applications were approved for: Folsom Athletic Association; Folsom Home and School Association; Cruisin’ Classics Auto Club; and 8th Grade Parents Committee.
Tuition and transportation contracts were approved for special education students.
Discussions: bus routes, 2-hour delayed openings for inclement weather, “Come Read with Me” (senior/grandparent program), Violence/Vandalism Report for 06-07, new state legislation and its impact on Folsom School.
Field trips/chaperone policy was discussed. Teachers and administrator decide number of parent chaperones for each trip, based on age of children and nature of trip. If trip is to a public area (zoo, farm market) additional parents may meet the class on location, but children are to stay with their assigned groups. All children and designated chaperones will ride the bus to and from the trip. Children will remain in school for the full day.
Stipended positions were approved for Play Director/Assistant Directors, Volleyball Advisors, Cheerleading Advisor, and Softball Advisor.
The board approved Gerry Marini Healy as Occupational Therapist (effective Oct. 26), and Rita Kachmarchyk as speech/language specialist (effective Dec. 17).
Travel expenditures were approved for staff members to attend state trainings and professional development workshops.
Job descriptions were approved for Health/Physical Education Teacher and School Physician/Medial Inspector.
Policy 5131.7, Weapons and Dangerous Instruments, was approved through final reading.
Grade level class trips to various locations were approved.
The following programs/curricula were approved: School Nursing Services Plan; English Language Services Plan; Remedial/Basic Skills Program; all revised PK-8 curricula; Intervention and Referral Services Program/Procedures; 5-year curriculum review schedule; and School Guidance/Counseling Program.
The new Folsom School Mission Statement was approved: Our mission at Folsom School is to serve the unique academic, physical, social, and emotional needs of all students, in a safe, supportive, and caring environment. Folsom staff members are committed to working with parents and community partners to provide the necessary supports to ensure that all children achieve the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards, thus developing the needed skills to function responsibly in our global society. We strive to foster our students’ exploration, creativity, and self-determination to help develop a lifelong love of learning.
