Board Notes – January 31, 2008
Mrs. McCaffrey presented an update on school initiatives.
Mrs. Rishel shared information about student behavior on the buses. She also presented an update on the School Choice Program. At this time, the program will continue under state education code. Specific funding information should be available shortly.
Transportation jointures with Buena were approved; this will generate additional revenue for Folsom District. Additionally, aid-in-lieu payments were approved for parents who must transport their own children.
Final filing date for school board member petitions was established as February 25 at 4 p.m. Ballot positions will be determined through drawing on March 5 at 2 p.m. School Board Election is April 15 from 4-9 p.m. at the Borough Hall.
Use of school grounds for Trike-athon to benefit St. Jude’s Hospital for Children was approved. Information will be sent home to parents.
The Facilities Committee will be meeting to review specifications for the new septic field to be installed this summer.
Mrs. Passalaqua’s maternity leave was amended; Mrs. Kathleen Mercier was appointed to fill her position as sixth grade teacher through year’s end.
Mrs. JoAnn Schmidt was appointed to fill Mrs. Hick’s Basic Skills Aide position in grade 1 from February through May.
The board accepted, with regret, letters from Mrs. Patricia DelBene and Mrs. Jean Liberto notifying the district of their intent to retire at year’s end.
The following staff members were approved to supervise Homework Clinic, beginning in February. Information will be sent to parents shortly regarding this new program.
The board accepted the resignation of part-time evening custodian James Zangaro. Mr. Frank DeSordi was approved to fill this position.
Substitute teachers Stephanie Marine and Glenn Paine Jr., and substitute support staff Lisa Bishop, Geraldine Deloison, and Frances Duffy, were approved.
Three Stockton students were approved to complete fieldwork in grades 1, 2 and 8.
Several resident students who have moved from the district were approved as choice students, as per parent request.
The tuition rate for the coming school year was set at $3,500 per student.
The board approved the updated Memorandum of Agreement with local law enforcement officials.
Travel, professional development, and field trips were approved for various personnel and grade levels.
Several new and revised policies were adopted for inclusion in the district’s policy manual.
