Board Notes – April 22, 2008
The board reorganization meeting included election of officers (Mimi Veneziani, president; Louis (Skip) DeStefano, vice-president); appointment of Joseph Smurlo as board secretary and Dorothy Reynolds as treasurer; Jean Rishel as 504 Officer; Janice McCaffrey as Affirmative Action/Title IX Coordinator; and Angela Devenny as Substance Awareness Coordinator.
May’s meeting was changed to the second Tuesday (May 13) at 6 p.m.
The board reapproved all current curricula, textbooks, and policies.
A representative from Powerschool presented an overview of this student data system.
Kathy McGee, retiring board member, was presented with a plaque and flowers in recognition of her many years of service to the Folsom School.
Mrs. Rishel reported that all interior locks have now been updated to a single-key system, for purposes of security. She also noted that she and Ms. DeSordi are investigating different pieces of playground equipment to help students build upper-body strength.
The board approved application for our sports teams to join the Atlantic Cape Junior High Athletic League for the upcoming year. Being part of a league will help with scheduling games and meets as well as securing referees.
Two residency investigators were approved to work on an as-needed basis.
The idea of moving toward “paperless” board meetings by employing laptops for certain areas of the board agendas is being explored.
The board accepted, with regret, Mrs. Lankin’s letter of resignation as kindergarten teacher. Ms. Amanda Cirillo will continue teaching in her place for the remainder of the year.
A list of substitute teachers and support staff were approved for this year and/or the coming school year.
The list of workshops and staff trainings were approved.
Field trips for volleyball, softball, and the eighth grade were approved.
The school calendar for the 2008-09 year was approved. It will be posted to our website.
The district Professional Development Plan was approved for the 2008-09 school year.
Practicum and student teaching placements were approved for this spring and next fall.
