Dear Folsom Families,
It is with excitement that the Folsom staff welcomes your child and family back to school for the 2019-2020 school year. The summer of 2019 will be cherished; however, there is no time like the Fall and the return to school! This year, we are eager to meet the 40 new students that will soon be recognized as Falcons and become a part of this special school-community.
The school theme for this year is You’ve Got a Friend in Me from the movie, Toy Story! The second verse from the original soundtrack states:
You've got troubles, and I've got 'em, too
There isn't anything I wouldn't do for you
We stick together and we see it through
'Cause you've got a friend in me
The verse mentioned above speaks to our role as a Folsom staff member. First and foremost, we are committed to supporting your son/daughter in academics as well as in the area of social and emotional learning. It is our mission to foster a learning environment in which every student has the maximum opportunity to achieve academic excellence. We also understand the importance of creating an environment that is welcoming and inviting, accessible, safe and secure for students, staff, and families.
We are continuing with the Positive Behavior Supports & Interventions in School (PBSIS) to promote a positive and caring school environment where students are taught, practice, and receive feedback from Folsom staff regarding the expectations of the school. Our students will be able to make responsible choices, and in full-implementation, we will nurture a strong, positive school community.
Introducing, modeling, and reinforcing positive social behavior is an important step to a student’s educational experience. Teaching behavioral expectations and rewarding students is a more positive approach than responding after a misbehavior occurs. The purpose of a school-wide PBSIS is to establish a climate in which appropriate behavior is the norm.
The PBSIS committee adopted a teaching and learning matrix with expectations that support a positive and caring school environment. The expectations apply to all students and staff members while in the classroom, hallways, bathrooms, and cafeteria. The expectations fall under the acronym – SOAR.
SOAR – Safe, On task, Act responsibly, and Respect self and others
We look forward to educating your son/daughter this school year. As always, do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher and/or administrator for any assistance throughout the school year.
